This book is one of the most important in the whole bible . As the experience righteousness by faith is so misunderstood by even many people that claim to be saved by faith . How can one believe they are saved by faith, and the next sentence say they are saved by works also? It is a great misunderstanding of knowing how to read the bible correctly . We are saved by faith, yet our faith will show works.
Yet those who do works to be saved do them by selfish purpose s and they cannot be accepted by God . We see here that this topic is immensely important to understand . Romans chapter 1 commentary O that fantastic book of Romans and Galatians. The polars of righteousness, the bible books that help you receive conversion, that help you become converted. Let us understand conversion is a rare experience.
RO 11 6 “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.”
If we are saved by works, then we are no more saved by grace. I always said that those apparent contradiction in the bible, God put them there for a good reason. It is a test to see if we are going to be honest or not. All honest people will tell themselves. Look it says we are saved by works also. What does it mean ? Can two things be true at the same time ? No then what is the solution . Then we study further the bible and God can if He wills the answer.
In Romans chapter 1 commentary we find out that we cannot be saved by works and grace at the same time . As the light cannot be green and red at the same time . Someone cannot be married and single at the same time . Honesty in reading the bible prayerfully is very important or we can twist the Scriptures to our own destruction.
RO 1 1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
From what was Paul separated from ? Paul was separated from the wordly selfish purposes. It does not mean that Paul did not work . But Paul s min mission was to help others learn and understand the bible and the theme that we are saved by faith, through belief in the death of Jesus on the cross.
That our works are not of ourselves, they are even prepared before the foundation of the world . In Romans chapter 1 commentary we see that Paul was separated from the sins of the age that the Christian world even today is blind to and does not know which they are. Such as selfishness, dishonesty, pride, arrogance, unloving, unking spirit, apathy and the like which are total opposite to Jesus meek and lowly character.
RO 1 2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
This gospel we find in the old testament . It is stunning that most Christians today believe that the old testament is no longer valid . This is not true here it says that the gospel of Jesus dying on the cross was promised and talked about by the prophets of the old testament. The bible says that the things that were written before in the old testament are for our learning. Jesus said that we should read Daniel which is found in the old testament .
Jesus said that people read the Scriptures which give testimony of Himself. In Jesus times there was no new testament . Jesus says that the old testament bear witness of Himself . In Romans chapter 1 commentary we find out that the old and new testament form one book, one revelation without division or separation .
RO 15 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. JN 5 39 39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.
RO 1 3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
In Romans chapter 1 commentary, we find that the message of the bible is about Jesus who loved you so much that He preferred to die rather than have you be destroyed for eternity . This amazing love is found when Jesus died on the cross. His blood made atonement for your sins . Believing in this sacrifice for you by faith , you receive salvation . You are saved without the works of the law. It does not mean that we do not do things for God and others. It means the intention of our works are not to be saved but because we love God and others.
RO 1 4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Jesus is God . Jesus took on the appearance of a men so that his perfect life could bring forgiveness to all . Jesus appeared in the old testament as the Angel of the Lord. Jesus is not an angel, but God . An angel means a messenger . This appellation the Angel of the Lord, capital letter, refers to Jesus when he appeared to Abraham Ge 18, Moses in burning bush, Sanson parents and others. Jesus is God like the Father and the Holy Spirit are.
RO 1 5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
This does not mean that people in the old testament were saved by works. They were saved by faith also . But since Jesus died on the cross, the sacrifice has become real and we do not have to make sacrifices in faith of a Messiah to come . Jesus already died and we have grace.
RO 1 6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: RO 1 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus had his followers in pagan Rome. This is why the gospel went to all the world in one generation . Paul says that the gospel was preached to all the world in one generation without television or internet.
In Romans chapter 1 commentary we find that a great problem with modern Christianity is that most Christians are congregated in the same place, the American continent. No wonder that the truth is not going to the ends of the world . Most countries have no Christians and nobody to preach the truth . This is why the churches are dying spiritual,and the world is dying spiritually also without the knowledge of the love of Jesus for them .
RO 1 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
Faith comes by hearing, very likely the Romans church were great bible students. They had faith in the midst of a pagan world. This most Christians would find hard to do without the comforts of being around many other believers. This step of faith is very important when led by God to grow your faith in Jesus and know how to stand without so many other believers around you .
RO 1 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
Paul had many churches to take care of, yet his love for them was so great that he did not think himself so exalted that he would not pray for them . Paul really cared for others. This is where Christianity is found, in the love we have one for another.
JN 13 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
RO 1 10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
Paul was visiting the believers. Do we care for others enough to visit those in need, Spiritual, physical needs ? We cannot be a stay at home Christian . True Christians care for others needs. We cannot only regard our needs and do not see if others are suffering, in pain, lonely, going through a difficult time . Christianity is found in loving others . In Romans chapter 1 commentary we find that our profession of being a Christian is worth nothing if we do not love others.
RO 1 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
God gives grace to the humble, God choses the weak and rejected of this world. As these that the world sees of not important, God sees as those who depend and rely on Him for all things. Those people realize that without God they cannot do anything . This is the total opposite of those who think they are enough without God . In fact pride and legalism goes hand in hand. A legalist can claim to be a Christian , but he is not as he believes that hie works are enough and deep down he thinks he is a good person . He makes the cross of Jesus of none effect.
RO 1 12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
This shows that Paul could spend a lot of time in places where there were no Christians . Paul was a real missionary . Paul would come back to be conformted in the mutual faith of the love of Jesus . A modern Christian should also reach the un reached, tell the love of God to those who do not know. Many Christians spend most of their time preaching to other Christians . Billions are waiting to hear the story of the love of God what are we waiting for to tell them ?
RO 1 13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
The word let meant in 1611 English the opposite than it has today. Back then it means hindered. Today let means allowed. Some words change meaning we need to receive the meaning of the world in 1611 and not today . Unless we do that we could be confused when the bible says Refill the earth, or other words which have changed meaning since 1611 when the King James bible was written .
RO 1 14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
Paul was sent to the gentiles . Who gave this call ? We find in Romans chapter 1 commentary that when God calls us to do a certain work we need to obey . Paul was called to the gentiles. It is a debt we owe to God . Even when we have done our best we need to say that we are unprofitable. This is how much we need to understand that men is nothing and God is everything .
LK 17 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”
RO 1 15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
Paul heard the call of God and was blessed. Will you hear the call of God in our life to help others know the truth of the bible and the love of God for them ? Millions are perishing without Jesus and without the knowledge that their sins can be forgiven. Do you love others enough to tell them ?. Why not give to a ministry or ask God now to show you where He wants you to serve ?
RO 1 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Many people are afraid to say that they love Jesus and are Christians . It does not mean we need to offend people and impose our belief. As non Christians can be often better than Christians . But the purpose of your cal to Jesus is to tell others of the eternal love of God for people from wherever they come from.
RO 1 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
What is revealed in the gospel of Jesus ? The amazing experience and message that men is no good, men has no righteousness, men is worked and corrupt. Thus the only solution is to ask God everyday for his righteousness. While we still cling to the belief that men has something good in himself we are not converted.
RO 1 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
This means that religious and non religious people alike, when they praise men and think i an good and worthy without God then the wrath of God is revealed. Unrighteousness is all that is not from God . As only God is righteous. Then all teachings that men is good and righteousness are deception for the which God gets angry that sermons are preached about our works being of any value for salvation .
JN 5 44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
RO 1 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
How does God manifest Himself ? Through the bible, through his messengers. Through creation, through the still small voice of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. No one on earth can have an excuse of not knowing God and everybody is led by the Holy Spirit to go in the way we should go . The bible says that God Wil cut the work short in righteousness. God Himself will evangelize the whole world at the very end and the church is too dormant to do their pointed work.
RO 1 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
We can know that God exists because of creation . We know a tree cannot appear from nowhere, from nothing , for no reason. Natural selection has no brain , no conscience no planning . But unless something is planned it cannot exist. A car cannot exist unless one choses the colour, shape, material used . The same goes for creation . If there was no God there would be no direction for natural selection to go to in creation as it has no planning ability .
RO 1 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Do you know which is one great way we show God that we love Him ? By our gratefulness. Let us be grateful for the things God gives us . This is the least we can do for al the blessings God shows us . RO 1 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Human reasoning is the great problem. We trust men s minds that are often corrupt, biased, dishonest and sold to their one ideas , rather than the truth. Human reasoning is the opposite of bible truth . It does not mean we cannot reason things out, but it cannot be apart from the bible . Humans err often and our little understanding of thinks makes it that once we believe something to be true when we only have limited information we arrive to false occlusions .
RO 1 23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Mensa reasoning powers came to believe that the things created deserved worship . We see how man s reasoning can be darkened. Today people do not worship things but themselves and their own reasoning powers. If you and me believe something it doe snot make it true . We need to prove something is true for it to be true.
RO 1 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
All honest people will arrive at truth, all dishonest people will reject truth . When someone rejects truth, they fall into darkened understanding . They start to believe that a lie is the truth . They start to follow false beliefs as a dishonest person Wil have a hard time to follow truth . It is all about honesty and humility .
RO 1 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Before they worshipped animals and trees and the created things, today people worship human reasoning and human beings.
RO 1 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
God left them to believe the lie and follow their own conclusions which were contrary to the calls of God in their hearts, and contrary to the revealed Word of God .
RO 1 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Here it says that a men and a women is normal , it is a natural use.
Today society has become so legalist that it becomes almost not right for a men and a woman to be together. Even the love and natural affection between a men and a women is being seen as bad when God says it is good .
EZ 18 5,6 “But if a man is righteous and practices justice and righteousness, and does not eat at the mountain shrines or lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, or defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her menstrual period
RO 1 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Those who refuse the bible and do not love the truth end up believing a lie. It is automatic , this is why it is very important to follow the truth and to be honest. As when we are not honest, automatically we accept the lie and become dishonest.
RO 1 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Oh we have one of the list of sins the which today Christian world is ignorant of . A regular Christian thinks sin is only drinking, drugs and adultery . His knowledge of sin is very limited. This is an amazing message we bring you . In most of the gospel we find that the sins that rebuked the most is lack of love for others and too much self love.
Those sins are pride, arrogance, selfishness, dishonesty . The unrighteous are dishonest, those who covet do not love others ? Those who hate others are selfish, the bible says we should even love our enemies. Those who whisper and talk about other people behind their back also are not loving others. These sins are almost never rebuked in churches, but this is the basis of bring a Christian. Loving God and others. It goes mush further than not doing certain things. We can avoid doing things yet remain wicked, proud and unloving . Righteousness by faith is being like Jesus by the power of God .
RO 1 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Backbiters destroy peoples characters in talking behind their backs. Proud , their lie saying they are something when all things are given of God to us . We need to be honest and realize that without God we cannot do anything . Proud people claim that the things that God gives them like success, or social ability and all things they did them themselves. We see this is also related to worshipping mens reasoning powers and not giving God the glory .
RO 1 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Without narwhal affection is very important as natural affection is what we need this is the things that makes you and me a Christiania . It goes with those who do not have mercy on those who suffer. They do not understand that we need to have pity on others as we can fall in the same situation one day and we will need someone to have mercy on us and help us it would be well to take a dictionary and study those sins quietly and prayerfully as these are the things that offend God . Lack of love for others is manifested in many different manners.
RO 1 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
People and the church do not know that it is not enough to not do certain things . We need to be like Jesus and love others. Paying tithe, fasting, reading the bible, praying are outward things. One can remain evil and do all these things. What matter is who we are as the only thing we Wil bring to heaven is who we are, our character. Have you accepted Jesus in your heart before ? Repeat after me. Father God forgive my sins, give me your righteousness, come into my heart. Heal and prosper me. Help me to walk with you in the name of Jesus amen
