In this article we will study is Ellen g White the greater light or the lesser light ?It is often repeated in seventh day Adventist churches that Ellen g White is the lesser light and that the bible is the greater Light . A few weeks ago i heard a sermon from pastor Hugo Gambetta who was explaining this important topic and i made my study . Even official Seventh day Adventist magazines and websites say Ellen g White is the lesser light , she is less than the bible and other prophets. But is this true ?
Is Ellen g White the lesser light ? Israel had the truth, it came from God, the Torah was inspired of God , but Israel started to teach false teachings and in EZ 9 we find that they were teaching people to worship Ball and pagan deities . Gods truth to the seventh day Adventist church is all true . It is the last movement before the return of Jesus . And if from God cannot fail . But people are not Gods truth and God will not force people to be good and always teach the truth .
Things can creep in a church that God did not intend. This is one of those false teachings of not the seventh day Adventist church but some people who teach things contrary to Ellen g White writings and the bible . Is Ellen g White an inspired writer as other prophets ? Who inspired prophets ? God then if God inspires prophets will he inspire a prophet 40 percent less than another prophet ? This is what many modern Seventh day Adventist pastors teach contrary to Ellen g Whit writings.
'The Holy Ghost is the author of the Scriptures and the Spirit of Prophecy.'—Selected Messages, Vol. 3, p. 30.
Both Ellen g White and the bible are inspired by the Holy Spirit . Nowhere does it say the Holy Spirit inspires some prophets less than others. There is no degree of inspiration to the point that one prophet could not be biblical .
The Bible must be your counselor. Study it, and the Testimonies God has given; for they never contradict His Word.' Letter 92, 1900 If Ellen g White is inspired , then her writings from the Holy Spirit will not contradict the bible . Why do some prophets like Gad, Nathan , Enoch are not in the bible ? Because God chose it to be so . Why ? We do not know ?
God is the one who chose who to include in the bible ? Are those other prophets not inspired ? Yes they are inspired ? Why aren't they in the bible ? Because God chose it to be so .
'Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light.' Review & Herald of January 20, 1903, From this verse the modern members of the Seventh day Adventist church have ASSUMED that the greater light is the bible . But the verse does not say the greater light is the bible . What is the greater light ? The greater light is the bible but also.........
'The prophet John was the connecting link between the two dispensations. He was the lesser light which was to be followed by a greater. He was to shake the confidence of the people in their traditions, call their sins to their remembrance, and lead them to repentance; that they might be prepared to appreciate the work of Christ. ..
No light had ever shone or ever will shine so clearly upon the mind of fallen man, as that which emanated from the teachings and example of Jesus.' DA P 220 The greatest prophet is John the baptist, but here it says he was also the lesser light . If John the Baptist is the lesser light what about other prophets in the bible if John the Baptist is the greatest prophet ? They are also lesser light .
'Aside from the joy that John found in his mission, his life had been one of sorrow. His voice had been seldom heard except in the wilderness. His was a lonely lot. And he was not permitted to see the result of his own labors. It was not his privilege to be with Christ and witness the manifestation of divine power attending the greater light.' DA P 220 Jesus is the greater light .
'Although not one of the prophets has a higher mission or great work to perform than had John, yet he was not to see even the result of his own labors. He was not privileged to be with Christ and witness the divine power attending the greater light.' 2 SP P 84
one of the greatest prophets that God had sent as a messenger to the earth.… Christ had said of him that he was more than a prophet…[that] "there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist." Review & Herald, April 8, 1873 John the Baptist the greatest prophet was the lesser light. Jesus is the greater light, as Jesus is the Truth and the bible is the truth then the whole bible is also the greater light .
'The prophet John was the connecting link between the two dispensations. As God’s representative, he stood forth to show the relation of the law and the prophets to the Christian dispensation. He was the lesser light, which was to be followed by a greater. The mind of John was illuminated by the Holy Spirit, that he might shed light upon his people; [and now notice these words:] but no other light ever has shone or ever will shine so clearly upon fallen man as that which emanated from the teaching and example of Jesus.' page 220 of The Desire of Ages John the Baptist was the lesser light , reflecting the light of Jesus who is the greater light .
'John was “more than a prophet.” While prophets had seen from afar Christ's advent, to John it was given to behold Him and to present Him to Israel as the Sent of God. The prophet John was the lesser light to be followed by a greater. No other light ever will shine so clearly on fallen man as the teaching and example of Jesus.' HLV P 141 All lights reflect the greater light which is Jesus .
'We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:' 2 Peter1 19 The bible is the light as Jesus is the Word of God , then the bible is the greater light . All prophets are lesser lights. All prophets together make the greater light . Yet no prophet has light in himself as they are not God .
'There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.' John 1:6-9 John came to bear witness of the Light of the world Jesus .
'He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.' John 5:35 36 ' I am the light of the world.' John 9:5, Jesus is the light of the world . All prophets reflect the true light who has light originating from himself , Jesus Christ .
2 The old testament is the lesser light also
'With the first advent of Christ there was ushered in an era of greater light and glory; but it would indeed be sinful ingratitude to despise and ridicule the lesser light because a fuller and more glorious light had dawned. Those who despise the blessings and glory of the Jewish age are not prepared to be benefited by the preaching of the gospel' This Day With God, p. 246
Here we need to be careful to say the Old testament is not as inspired as the new testament . Ellen g White is not saying that . The old Testament is as inspired as the new testament . Because the old testament bear witness of the coming Messiah Jesus , then it is lesser in the sense that the old testament was pointing to the coming of Jesus . The old and new testament is the Word of God fully inspired by the Holy Spirit .
3 Ellen g White says her book contain Light
'I thank my Heavenly Father for the interest that my brethren and sisters have taken in the circulation of Christ’s Object Lessons. By the sale of this book great good has been accomplished, and the work should be continued. But the efforts of our people should not be confined to this one book.… The larger books, Patriarchs and Prophets, Great Controversy, and Desire of Ages, should be sold everywhere. These books contain truth for this time,—truth that is to be proclaimed in all parts of the world. Nothing is to hinder their sale.
Many more of our larger books might have been sold if church members had been awake to the importance of the truths these books contain, and had realized their responsibility to circulate them. My brethren and sisters, will you not now make an effort to circulate these books? » CM P 124
' Sister White is not the originator of these books. They contain the instruction that during her life-work God has been giving her. They contain the precious, comforting light that God has graciously given his servant to be given to the world. From their pages this light is to shine into the hearts of men and women, leading them to the Savior.
The Lord has declared that these books are to be scattered throughout the world. There is in them truth which to the receiver is a savor of life unto life. They are silent witnesses for God. In the past they have been the means in his hands of convicting and converting many souls. Many have read them with eager expectation, and, by reading them, have been led to see the efficacy of Christ’s atonement, and to truth in its power' PM P 35
Ellen g White says she did not originate her books, if she did not originate her books who did ? The Holy Spirit . Then could she say she was not inspired or less inspired if the Holy Spirit inspired her ? No Ezekiel, Isiah, Jeremiah , Ellen g White all prophets are lesser lights pointing people to the greater light the bible and Jesus .
4 Moon reflects the greater light the sun
'And God made two great lights; the great light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night.' Genesis 1:16 2 lights are in the sky , one reflect the original light , the sun . The moon has no light in itself but is only reflecting the light of the sun who has light in itself . Even if God is the one putting light and power in the sun .
' But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall ' Malachi 4:2 Jesus is called the sun who has light and truth in himself . Stunning to see we live in a society who thinks human reasoning can create and decide what truth is . When the bible says that only Jesus has original truth and light . No one can create truth, no one can decide what truth or light is .
'The sun rising in the heavens is the representative of Him who is the life and light of all that he has made' MH P235 The moon are like the prophets or Christians who reflect the light of Jesus .
'And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.' Re 21 23: In heaven Jesus will be the light of the whole planet .
5 Jesus says he is the Light of the world
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Desire of Ages, p. 463 If we do not receive the light of Jesus we are in darkness. Believing lies or false beliefs is to be in darkness .
Christ makes no apology when He declares, “I am the light of the world.”
He was, in life and teaching, the gospel, the foundation of all pure doctrine. Just as the sun compares with the lesser lights in the heavens, so did Christ, the Source of light, compare with the teachers of His day. He was before them all, and shining with the brightness of the sun, He diffused His penetrating, gladdening rays throughout the world.... TMK P 97 Jesus is the source of light and truth . Nobody has light and truth in themselves. Those who spend time with Jesus reflect light and truth from Jesus .
'When He spoke these words, Jesus was in the court of the temple specially connected with the services of the Feast of Tabernacles. In the center of this court rose two lofty standards, supporting lamp stands of great size. After the evening sacrifice, all the lamps were kindled, shedding their light over Jerusalem. This ceremony was in commemoration of the pillar of light that guided Israel in the desert, and was also regarded as pointing to the coming of the Messiah. At evening when the lamps were lighted, the court was a scene of great rejoicing.
In the illumination of Jerusalem, the people expressed their hope of the Messiah’s coming to shed His light upon Israel. But to Jesus the scene had a wider meaning. As the radiant lamps of the temple lighted up all about them, so Christ, the source of spiritual light, illumines the darkness of the world. Yet the symbol was imperfect. That great light [here she speaks of the sun which He Himself had infused with original light] which His own hand had set in the heavens was a truer representation of the glory of His mission.' Counsels to Parents, Teachers and Students, p. 54:
Israel was the light of the world who was filled with pagan countries and religions . They were to spend time with God ti receive light and impart it to others. Sadly as today they did not do their mission and God rejected them as a nation . Today most churches are not giving light to others and they are about to end up in total darkness and vomit us from Jesus mouth .
'It is the privilege of the Christian to connect with the Source of light, and through this living connection become the light of the world.' This Day With God, p. 93 We see that the work God has given us many are not going . God has called us so that we could do his work and tell others that Jesus loves them . As we are not doing this work and mission work is diminishing every year, we see sadness for God as his church is asleep to the needs of the world and what would make the heart of Jesus happy .
When will you wake up ? When will you do the work of God ? When wil you tell others that they are in danger of being eternal lost ? Did you know that unless you do this work your christian life has been vain ? Did you know that unless you cooperate with God you will never enter heaven and if would have been better for you to never have been saved ?
Unless we connect with the source of light who is Jesus , we will not reflect light to others. Study of the bible and the Spirit of prophet and prayer and evangelism are ways for God to give us more light .
God does not send more light to those who have refused light .
'As the light of the sun is light and life and blessing to all that live, so should Christians, by their good works, by their cheerfulness and courage, be the light of the world. As the light of the sun chases away the shades of night and pours its glories on valleys and hills, so will the Christian reflect the Sun of Righteousness which shines on him.' CHC P296 We do not do good works from ourselves as Jesus said the works that I do the Father does them through me .
'O be sure you receive your illumination from the Source of all light. He is the great central Light of the universe of heaven and the great Light of the world.' That I May Know Him, p. 341 Most people receive their illumination form Satan it is light but dale light .
'In him was life; and the life was the light of men.' Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 48 Jesus has life in himself, Jesus is truly God and the only originator of light . What is light ? It is truth .
6 What does Ellen g White also call light ?
'These experiences helped the disciples to understand that among those whom many regarded as unworthy of salvation, there were souls hungering for the light of truth. ' AA P 19 Truth is light . When we understand something form the bible , the Holy Spirit is the one who helped us understand truth or light .
'As they heard their beloved Master explaining the Scriptures in the light of all that had happened, their faith in Him was fully established.' AA P 27
One truth can have unlimited light and lesson brought forth from one verse . The bible is infinite and unlimited . On the other hand, there are some who, instead of wisely improving present opportunities, are idly waiting for some special season of spiritual refreshing by which their ability to enlighten others will be greatly increased.
They neglect present duties and privileges, and allow their light to burn dim, while they look forward to a time when, without any effort on their part, they will be made the recipients of special blessing, by which they will be transformed and fitted for service. AA P 54 We ned to make strong efforts to search for light and truth and study the bible , or what we already know will dim out . Light searching is a continual quest . Those who rest in their light will become lukewarm and salt that has lost its savor .
7 False belief in Ellen g White in the church
'The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Prov. 29:18). Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God’s remnant people in the true testimony.' SM 1 P48
Satan is the one who has brought this false belief in modern Adventist people . But the truth 1 the bible 2 Ellen g White books contains the truth We need to believe those sources of truth and light and test every modern teaching from those sources of light . When people say Ellen g White is lesser light they are diminishing the Holy Spirit work and teach people to disregard what is fully inspired as non important and secondary .
They persistently rejected light and stifled the convictions of the Spirit. The influence that controls the children of disobedience worked in them, leading them to abuse the men through whom God was working. The malignity of their rebellion was intensified by each successive act of resistance against God and the message He had given His servants to declare. Every day, in their refusal to repent, the Jewish leaders took up their rebellion afresh, preparing to reap that which they had sown. AA P 61
When we reject light, then we fall . Falling means falling form the truth Th true church stand son the truth . Babylon the Sunday protestant churches and the papacy have fallen from teaching the bible to teaching pagan beliefs mixed with some bible . A church who has most of its teachings form paganism cannot be called Gods church . The seventh day Adventist church is the last true church of God .
The wrath of God is not declared against unrepentant sinners merely because of the sins they have committed, but because, when called to repent, they choose to continue in resistance, repeating the sins of the past in defiance of the light given them. If the Jewish leaders had submitted to the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, they would have been pardoned; but they were determined not to yield. In the same way, the sinner, by continued resistance, places himself where the Holy Spirit cannot influence him. AA P62
Pride and dishonesty those mighty sins who prevent so many people from accepting the light and saying I was wrong , and no many from rejecting the lies they have believed to accept the truth of the bible . Will you accept truth today ? Let us pray Father God bless my brother sister reading give them honest heart so that they accept the truth . Let us give the 3 angels message to the world who is ready to perish may many voice be giving your truth and many accepting your message and love in the name of Jesus amen
