What was life in the days of Noah? Why is it important for us to understand what happened i the days of Noah? About 2400 years before Jesus . Or about 4400 Years ago. The bible says that the end times will be like the days of Noah. Let us find out how we can compare our generation to the times of Noah .
GE 6 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
Here we see that God shortered lifespan for men as God did not want men to be like in the days of the flood when men lived 900 years and develop and spread evil whereven they went . A long living sinner will be comtamination for society . Before the flood men lived many hundreds of years. A blessing for those who wanted to developp their talents. Sadly most people before the flood were evil . The bible says the same thing is happening today .
GE 6 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
Men only thought about love and self . Here the bible is not saying that it is bad to love but it is saying that they did their own will and did not want Gods will in their lives. So was it in the days of Noah when men only thought of themselves yet God created the earth so that we could love one another .
GE 6 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
We cannot imagine the evil of men in those times. But today it seems like evil is not reprehended and minor things that God does not condemn becomes important to people in our generation . This is making the bible a lie and making men s reasoning poser the authority . The same happened in the days of Noah .
Men s reasoning power was all powerful while Gods words were put aside . Today our society is doing the same thing and making their rules and deciding without God what is right and wrong . Sadly many people will wake up too late to realize that what matters for eternal life is Gods words. And that truth is not given by men but God is the one that makes and decides what is right and wrong . So was it in the days of Noah when men tought they could decide right and wrong and that no divine aurhototy was above their mens thoughts.
GE 6 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
God must have been very sad to see how this beautiful earth that He has created with such love and compassion became a place filled with very violent, selfish people . People who loved to lie and cheap and abuse others. A place where self and pride was the great thing of the day . A place where Gods love and will was put aside . So was it in the days of Noah and today the same state of affairs is happening .
This is why Jesus says
LK 17 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
GE 6 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Here we see that men s wickedness was so intense that God decided to bring an end to the earth inhabitants. We know that God is very meriful and the reason why many people today are not destroyed is because God is slow to anger . When does God being judgment . When a nation or an individual has passed the limit of forbearance. EC 8 11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
Here it says that because men do not see God punishing them right away . They keep on doing evil . Until their hearts is filled with al kind of pride selfshness. Often in the bible the word pride is synonimous with evil . This is a very interesting study we can do another time . Pride also means evil . So was it in the days of Noah when men only worshipped self and thought what they accomplished was made by the power of men .
PR 8 13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Pride , arrogancy, the evil way is the same thing .
GE 6 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah was saved by grace back then also . It is a misconception to believe that people in the old testament were saved by works . They were saved by grace, but they did works to show their faith in the futur coming Messiah . Now that the Messiah died on the cross . We look back and only need to ask forgiveness to God .
So was it in the days of Noah Unbelief
Unbelief was the great thing in the times of Noah . They loved to follow the majority without thinking that the majority could be wrong . This was also weakness, as many were afraid to stand out and be different . They did not realize that by following the majority they put their lives in danger and finally died in the flood . Can you immagine dying from drawning? What a terrible death . All because of unbelief .
What must have happened is that there were preacher os the day As atheism was not a thing back then because people lived so close after creation that many still believed that God was the Creator . But the religion of the day was one made by society . It seems like any preacher that did not follow established religion was rejected. So was it in the days of Noah and this was the case of Noah who was rejected as an independent preacher.
2 PE 2 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
How can the bible say that Noah brought in the flood ? That is very interesting ? We live in a time when people say that men is speaking . Most christians today even believe that reasoning powers is everything . If that would be so then why need God ? If men is enough and his reasoning powers to explain the bible?
Let us do away with God. This is what our society is doing . It says here that Noah preached the flood and end of the world . It seems like Noah was also preaching the message of righteosness by faith . Proving here also that men were saved by faith back then too . Nobody can be saved by wirks as if it is by works then there would be no need of Jesus and Him dying on the cross. So was it in the days of Noah and today too men think they can save themselves . They make the cross of Jesus of none effect.
If works were enough the death of Jesus on the cross becomes useless. But men is not God and men without God is nothing . We see that God has mesenger son earth . God directs their words and when those words are rejected then we reject God and bring on ourselves judgment and condemnation . O if people would realize this . That there are people on earth led by God and rejecting them means rejecting God and his messages and birging judgment on ourselves.
So was it in the days of Noah Mens words or Gods words?
I ti is incredible to see that in churches today . When a messanger of God talks to peple they believe that his words are from his reasoning powers and not from God . People do not believe in absolute anymore . Let us learn this lesson as this is one of the reason why God sent the food on the ancient world . So was it in the days of Noah, rejecting abolute truth is opening the door to believe in mens reaosning powers, opinions, feelings and impressions .
Very often men are led by evil spirits. The impressions people receive are often from evil angels .But if God is real the which we know then we can be sure God choses some men and women on earth to preach the truth . If God does it so it means that God will talk through his agents. Would God send people to preach to others so that they give their own opinions and reasoning ? Yet this is what many christiand and non christians believe today. This is also mocking God and worshiping men and his reasoning powers.
We have the example of Moses . When the leaders of the people came to tell him that his words and his actions were only his onw feelings and impressions and his own will . God really got angry . What does it mean ? It means that we are all reasponsible to know who is led and sent by God and who is actuating in his own power. So was it in the days of Noah Gods words were not believed and they rejected God in his messanger.
So was it in the days of Noah 250 princes of Israel
NU 16 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
Here we see that the rebellion against Moses was not made by obscure people . There were 250 of the princes of Israel . Men in high position and power.
NU 16 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?
Here those princes come to Moses to tell him that he has no right to rebuke people. Thus they insinuate that they believe that when Moses talks he only talks from his onw mind . They also tell Moses that he lifts himself above others . Here too these princes are saying We do not believe that God speaks through you, we do not believe that God has sent you .
This is quite incredible seeing that these men saw all the plagues in Egypt. They saw the red sea open , they saw God punishing the Egyptians in the red sea. They saw the pillar of fire by day and the pillar of cloud by night . Yet they did not believe. Incredible unbelief . Often not believing Gods messangers comes form unbelief . So was it in the days of Noah
NU 16 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:
5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the Lord will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
The way of God to solve this is to show who is his servant . In this case God actuated right away . In the case of Jesus it took years for the Pharisee to see that Jesus was the son of God. Some people are so blind that even when the earth is rent , there is an earthquake .They sill did not believe . We can study this chapter 16 of Numbers fully another time . So was it in the days of Noah Selfishness
God bestowed upon these antediluvians many and rich gifts; but they used His bounties to glorify themselves, and turned them into a curse by fixing their affections upon the gifts instead of the Giver. They employed the gold and silver, the precious stones and the choice wood, in the construction of habitations for themselves, and endeavored to excel one another in beautifying their dwellings with the most skillful workmanship.
They sought only to gratify the desires of their own proud hearts, and reveled in scenes of pleasure and wickedness. Not desiring to retain God in their knowledge, they soon came to deny His existence. They adored nature in place of the God of nature. They glorified human genius, worshiped the works of their own hands, and taught their children to bow down to graven images PP90
Pride and selfishness were the great sins of the times of Noah . To be a christian one needs to start with thes eatributes that only can come from God . Humility and honesty . The opposite is pride and dishonesty . A christian cannot do much with a lying spirit as truth will not be welcomed. When the people in Noahs time heard the preaching. Their hearts did not want the truth and prefered to believe a lie . They did not humble themselves to repent ask forgiveness and escape the judgments to come . This is a good time to explain this verse
2 PE 18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Here it says that Jesus went to preach . But it says that Jesus did this preaching though whom ? Through the Holy Spirit. When did the Holy Spirit preach ? In the dyd of Noah . When the ark was a preparing . Some believe Jesus went to hell here . But it says Jesus went to those who were in the prison of unbelief in the days of Noah And Jesus did not preach but the Holy Spirit through Noah . We see also here that some men are led by God as the bible does not even say Noah preached but Jesus and the Holy Spirit were the preachers.
This class were foremost in rejecting the preaching of Noah. As they endeavored to represent God by material objects, their minds were blinded to His majesty and power; they ceased to realize the holiness of His character, or the sacred, unchanging nature of His requirements. As sin became general, it appeared less and less sinful, and they finally declared that the divine law was no longer in force; that it was contrary to the character of
God to punish transgression; and they denied that His judgments were to be visited upon the earth. Had the men of that generation obeyed the divine law, they would have recognized the voice of God in the warning of His servant; but their minds had become so blinded by rejection of light that they really believed Noah's message to be a delusion. PP 95.3
It was not multitudes or majorities that were on the side of right. The world was arrayed against God's justice and His laws, and Noah was regarded as a fanatic. Satan, when tempting Eve to disobey God, said to her, “Ye shall not surely die.” Genesis 3:4. Great men, worldly, honored, and wise men, repeated the same. “The threatenings of God,” they said, “are for the purpose of intimidating, and will never be verified.
You need not be alarmed. Such an event as the destruction of the world by the God who made it, and the punishment of the beings He has created, will never take place. Be at peace; fear not. Noah is a wild fanatic.” The world made merry at the folly of the deluded old man. Instead of humbling the heart before God, they continued their disobedience and wickedness, the same as though God had not spoken to them through His servant. PP 96
Here we see that the whole workd was arrayed against God . Even today some pople do not like minorities . Some people like to be in the majority and to fit in the crowd. . The great men of the day quieted the alarms of the people saying nothing will happen there will be no flood . Are we learning from this lesson. As this is the goal of this article to learn why so was it in the days of Noah. So that we do not repeat the same error. Unbelief, chosing to follow the crowd, too proud to repend and follow the truth by fear to be mocked by others Trusting leaders who are corrupt. Not having a daily devotional life with God .Selfishness and only serving self .
So was it in the days of Noah Defiance against God
There was grea defiance against God we can see that in that Noah was mocked. Can you immgine being mocked for 120 years yet keep on preaching because God sent you to give this terrible message.
But Noah stood like a rock amid the tempest. Surrounded by popular contempt and ridicule, he distinguished himself by his holy integrity and unwavering faithfulness. A power attended his words, for it was the voice of God to man through His servant. Connection with God made him strong in the strength of infinite power, while for one hundred and twenty years his solemn voice fell upon the ears of that generation in regard to events, which, so far as human wisdom could judge, were impossible. PP 96.2
The world before the Flood reasoned that for centuries the laws of nature had been fixed. The recurring seasons had come in their order. Heretofore rain had never fallen; the earth had been watered by a mist or dew. The rivers had never yet passed their boundaries, but had borne their waters safely to the sea. Fixed decrees had kept the waters from overflowing their banks. But these reasoners did not recognize the hand of Him who had stayed the waters, saying, “Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further.” PP 96 As
Noah was rejected in his days so shall it be with God smessangers who follow the bible . It is a strange thing to see people who are humble, honest and sincere. This the world doe snot like .Do you want to save your life or go to heaven? The same thing that happened in the days of Noah are happening today . What would keep you to ask God to help you escape what is coming ?
LK 21 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
